The Assistant Manager, Admissions (Temporary) contributes to the success of the Chicago Zoological Society by assisting in the management of daily operations of the Admissions area and ensuring crew members are friendly, approachable, and provide exceptional customer service to zoo guests and to assure guests have a quality and enjoyable experience, contributing to the Society's overall goals of providing an extraordinary guest experience and generating revenue to contribute to the Society's overall revenue goals and financial sustainability.
The successful candidate will:
Ensure exceptional guest service is provided to all guests by assuring all staff are scheduled for and attend Society-wide customer service training, leading and improving Auxiliary Services training, continuous observation, retraining as needed, coaching, and follow-up, as appropriate.
Assist in the preparation of department staffing plan and daily staffing schedules to support budgetary and CZS goals, including scheduling for all Admissions locations, as well as executing onsite operating adjustments in response to the needs of guests and the operation and as needed. Assign crew to assist in other areas within the institution as needed.
Perform daily management functions to ensure proper cash handling procedures are followed, cash accounting, system auditing and attendance collection in support of programs and in accordance with procedures established in conjunction with Cash Control, Finance, and Public Safety Departments.
Assist in training and supervising seasonal crew members, including work observation, performance evaluation, recognition, and corrective action, as appropriate.
Maintain effective communications among managers, crew and guests. Respond to phone inquires for advance tickets, rental reservations and general information.
Assist in managing the Admissions point of sale ("POS") system, including working with vendor support staff and the Information Technology Department to resolve software and related hardware issues, updating event scheduling, and entering other information as needed.
Assist in updating departmental procedures relating to customer service, up selling, cash handling, reporting, and location standards.
Monitor financial performance of locations and implement corrective action in controllable areas, such as labor, to maintain budgeted expenses.
Ensure locations are stocked with necessary equipment and supplies. Perform inventories of needed ticket stock and supplies to ensure sufficient onsite supply levels are met and submit supply orders to General Manager. Ensure all location signs are correct and properly displayed. Recommend and order appropriate signage as needed.
Provide backup support for the Motor Safari department on occasion by operating the Carousel in a safe manner following established procedures, including: performing and maintaining daily operational checklist, performing safety checks and messages and provide the access control function.
Perform front-line functions as needed.
Assure compliance with Society policies and departmental procedures, including but not limited to Safety policies, Government Job Safety regulations, and applicable labor laws.
Other related duties as assigned.




Position Requirements and Specifications



This position includes the following requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
Two years supervisory experience required or equivalent combination of supervisory experience and direct front-line experience.
Must have computer proficiency including hands-on experience with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Strong customer service orientation required.
Solid organization and communication skills required.
Must be able to interact positively with the public.
Experience and/or ability to work and interact effectively with a diverse, multicultural audience.
The preferred qualifications include:
College coursework in relevant business, management subjects or other relevant subjects preferred.
Prior experience with cash handling and working in a customer service environment preferred.
Ability to operate a Point of Sale system preferred.
Multilingual ability, Spanish fluency.
Additional Information:
Incumbent must have ability to work non-standard hours including evenings, holidays, and weekends. Work schedules are based on the needs of the operation and may be adjusted due to weather conditions. Must represent the Chicago Zoological Society in a professional manner and provide the highest level of quality customer service at all times. This seasonal position requires a high level of customer service. Incumbent must have ability to learn and follow Society policies and departmental procedures and standards and must model and enforce across assigned work group(s). Admissions employees may be assigned North and South Buggies, and internal attraction ticket booths and entrances. It may be necessary to board buses or walk traffic lanes in order to obtain attendance counts and/or collect parking fees. Admissions employees may also be required to temporarily assist at other Guest Services locations as directed, such as food service areas.

Schedule Details



Brookfield Zoo is open every day of the year including weekends and holidays. We are seeking individuals that are able to work a flexible schedule that would include working weekend days (when we are busiest) as well as regular week days. The work shifts are usually from 4 to 8 hours in length generally during the hours that Brookfield Zoo is open. The work schedule may start as early as 8:00 a.m. and end as late as 7:00 p.m. (10:00 p.m. on weekends and for special events). This position requires the ability to work non-standard hours including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
